You can do the template edits but its easier with a plugin
I tried to find the plugin on google long ago but failed.

Here's the template edit script and directions.

ACP> Templates and Style> Templates> Header> header_welcomeblock_member

Find.
Code:
<a href="{$mybb->settings['bburl']}/search.php?action=getdaily">{$lang->welcome_todaysposts}</a>

Add below/after.
Code:
<a href="http://www.YOURSITE.DOMAIN/search.php?action=finduserthreads&amp;uid={$mybb->user['uid']}">Your Threads</a>
<a href="http://www.YOURSITE.DOMAIN/search.php?action=finduser&amp;uid={$mybb->user['uid']}">Your Posts</a>

I need 10 posts to pm so here http://mods.mybb.com/view/mythreadsmyposts

gets the job done perfectly
I would prefer doing a template edit over a plugin. Very simple and you can always revert the template back to its original state if you need to.
I agree with Xerotic.
