Is there a way to pull the first 100 characters or so from the first post of each thread and use that as the thread's meta tag description?

It would take some rewritting of the plugin. Right now I don't have time to make the alterations. IMHO it's not a good idea anyways. Better to use the subject of the thread than gibberish that's normally in a post. Subjects are easier to view and the link from the forum display has the same anchor text. It's better SEO.

But it leaves the meta description way too short. Even Google Webmaster Tools shows them as being too short. I think search engine results look better when the description is two lines of text (as opposed to one)...

I don't have any problems with it. I rank very well in Google at HF with the same configuration.
