Curious as to what everyone's prune criteria is? Do you prune members older than six months with zero posts?

It depends on the site but usually after 6 months to a year anyone with 0 posts gets the ax. All my sites require a simple intro to gain access and guests can read many of the posts before joining. If the sites are intriguing enough to want to join, i see no reason not to post after you do!

After all, it's a community! If a member feels they joined and want to not be a member, how hard is it to ask the admin to delete their account?

Spammers are obviously banned and we get plenty of those too.

I don't bother pruning zero post members anymore. I do unactivated for 48 hours or more every few weeks.
#26
Doesn't that only work if you use the activate by email type of registration?
It's a really good idea but I have instant registration so I don't think that will work.

What are your opinions on instant vs. email verification/activation for new registrations?

Damn you! Now you got me rethinking my registration process!

If you feel you need to allow instant verification then that's fine but it opens you up to spammers. If spammers are not a problem and you don't need to verify emails you're fine. You can always change it later.

Well, spammers were a big problem with the wow software. Whether instant or email activation, they got in by the dozens daily.

We implemented a few mods that took care of the issue, but the software manufacturer wouldn't upgrade the security holes in it.

When WowClassic was born, spammers became less of an issue because of the captcha that was put in there. It also could very wel be that spammers have actually reduced because they got a little bored with forum spamming.
Granted, a few still get in but not the hundreds a day we were getting. When instant activation was started with our implementation of the captcha, I guess we got confident because of the reduction of spammers.

So because of that, plus the ability to see more of a new member when they join whether they post or not with Mybb, the same level of comfort traveled over I guess when I started my Mybb boards.

Your way of pruning unactivated accounts is very appealing. It's much better than my 'system' of being polite and sending out warning letters and giving them a chance to comply and show up!

Your plugin works a treat too. Maybe on your next version of this you can add more removal variables? Like giving the option to prune certain groups and post counts under and over a certain amount or date?

Yeah I might add an option to ignore certain groups. That way VIP groups can be ignored. Something like that at least.

Yeah it's easy enough to work around now. Cool to know you like the idea though Smile
