SEO Not Functional
#11
Labrocca,

You are correct, I am wrong. I take full responsibility for my lack of reasoning and short temper. I moved the site over to the main directory and just made a new php page to show the "home" page.

I sincerely appolegize for the rude comments made. Please note that I never said your plugin was bad, or even wrong. It's a great plugin, 100x's better than the google SEO one.

Might I however request, respectfully, that there be a revision to the canonical plugin to include the .htaccess information and example file to further troubleshooting? Granted it has nothing to do with the actual plugin, i can see where it would cause someone inexperienced a problem that they simply won't understand. I think I can honestly say that my issue wasn't being inexperienced, more so hardheaded and not thorough in my troubleshooting. It's something I will most certainly work on.

htaccess incorrectly done will cause site errors. My plugin doesn't require any htaccess changes nor does it really have anything to do with htaccess. You're missing the point of what this plugin does.

My guess is that you do too much at once. Install a plugin, test things, make sure it hasn't effected things negatively then activate the next plugin.

Basically somewhere along the lines you didn't follow directions. Looks to me like you changed the setting for SEO URLs of default MyBB without reading the actual setting description.

Quote:Enable search engine friendly URLs?
Search engine friendly URLs change the MyBB links to shorter URLs which search engines prefer and are easier to type. showthread.php?tid=1 becomes thread-1.html. Once this setting is enabled you need to make sure you have the MyBB .htaccess in your MyBB root directory (or the equivilent for your web server). Automatic detection may not work on all servers. Please see The MyBB wiki for assistance.

That's probably all true. I found out the problem of activating or deactivating too many plugins too fast. It caused severe DB corruptions and the, because of my lack of knowledge in database management, I had no idea how to rebuild my stuff from tables left over, had to restart from scratch.

Thanks for the help Smile Greatly appreciated.

Technically plugins shouldn't cause DB corruption. The problem is your lack of experience and knowledge of how MyBB works. You seem to make assumptions just as the one I just quoted. You seem to jump the gun too often blaming MyBB, plugins, or an author. I wish you luck in the learning process.

Well Then I guess it's a good thing I got a guy like you who can call me stupid when I need to be called stupid and correct my misunderstandings Smile Thanks for that. I guess everyone starts somewhere, I'd say I'm better off than most people just beginning, but I know I have a great deal more to learn. That'll only come from experience and finding problems and fixing them and seeking newer and higher sights.

Thanks for the help Smile

Never called you stupid.

It's dangerous that you assume that because I don't believe it's true and it's that assumption which gets you into trouble imho.

Smile I think you misunderstood what I wrote. It's not you who's calling me stupid, it's me calling myself stupid, or rather, ignorant when it comes to mybb or web development. I'm fairly decent with graphics, because I was taught in trained in that, but I was never taught anything about we dev; I'm having to learn all of this myself through trials and experience. Sometimes some days are better than others.

When I say I'm better off than most people just beginning, I'm talking about that I have more available, not skill. I have the money and funding to run a website while most people are using free web hosts. I know my resources, well, at least some of them, such as this site, where I can go if I'm in trouble. Most others use google a lot and very poorly and have a hard time finding the right answers to the questions they need. That's what I meant by that. I don't mean my skill is better, hardly so, but what's available to me is greater than probably a 15 year old high school kid living in a low income home, which is where a great deal of your sites come from, that and blog sites.

I have a lot to learn, more than a lot, I won't even pretend that I'm "above" anyone else. Just because I have tools and equipment here it doesn't mean I know how to use them properly, or even if I did know how to use them properly, I wouldn't have a clue how to use them for what I need. Everyone starts somewhere, better to start at the beginning than in the middle.
